Michigan's state motto is: "If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look around you." Although Michigan is quite pleasant, the state of the indoor air quality can be less than pleasing. Thankfully there is a way to improve every Michigan home's air quality and comfort.

Take for example some of Michigan's most well-known counties. Wayne and Marquette Counties are Michigan's two largest counties that coincidentally have a serious risk of radon gas, with quite different radon levels.

Marquette County, with an area of 3,425 square feet, is a hefty amount of land with a hefty amount of radon gas. What homeowners in Marquette County don't know is that the average indoor radon level for their area is well above the danger zone of 4.0 pCi/L. Marquette averages a radon level of about 5.6 pCi/L, and about 25 percent of the county has a level above 4.0 pCi/L.

On the other hand Wayne County, which in 2005 had about 1,998,217 residents, has an average level of radon gas that is much lower than Marquette County. But, residents in Wayne County still need the help of radon mitigation. The county's average level is at 2.5 pCi/L with 16 percent of homes above 4.0 pCi/L.

Whether your home has a radon gas level above 4.0 or below 2.0 pCi/L, your home is not as safe as it should be until your home has no radon gas. Remember, radon is actually second to smoking as the prime cause of lung cancer!

With these kind of numbers, homeowners should be having the radon removed. So, why aren't they?
